Art Competition
Showgirl Legacy presents the annual Las Vegas Showgirl Art Competition. It begins with a historical perspective and presentation of the showgirl era by former performers along with a showgirl modeling original costumes from the Las Vegas stage show spectaculars. The Las Vegas Academy of the Arts has hosted this program since inception, thanks to Kelly Mabel one of our directors and the academy's visual arts teacher who has been the educational force behind the Art Competition.
Ms. Mabel's students study the unique history of the showgirl and create their interpretation of the classic showgirl through mixed media. We also invite students from other schools and community artists to attend and participate.
The students submit their paintings, and the top winners win cash prizes and the opportunity to have their artwork showcased with the costumes that becomes the Las Vegas Showgirl Art & Costume Exhibition...

The Showgirl Legacy Art Competition began in 2007 and the exhibit has debuted over the years at Barnes and Noble, the Nevada State Museum Las Vegas, Nevada Historical Society Reno, Water Street Art Gallery Henderson, and the Orleans and Bally’s Hotel/Casino at the Cast and Crew Reunions. The art was also displayed at a fashion show that included MGM Hello Hollywood Hello costumes from the Karen Burns collection, it was featured in the Vegas PBS ArtScene series, and a Showgirl Documentary by the Read to Me Foundation.
The Las Vegas Showgirl Art & Costume Exhibition has been featured in numerous newspapers and publications over the years including the New York Times and the Associated Press.
For 2020, in light of the coronavirus challenges, we have reformatted the showgirl art competition to online. To expand participation and artistic expression this year we encourage and will accept various art forms of your choice as long as it represents the iconic, classic showgirl/dancer from the stage show spectaculars.
